What is your role with PCRF?
PCRF Support Group Chair
Reasons for volunteering with PCRF?
I got involved with PCRF at a time when I was really ill. I have a muscle disease known as Myasthenia Gravis which lead to me having to give up work. I became bedridden and very depressed.
The volunteers at PCRF were an inspiration to me and the North Cyprus Orchid Walk fund raising project was just getting off the ground so I was asked to help with the initial paperwork etc. I was able to contribute from home and the more I did, the better I felt. Thanks to the wonderful people at PCRF I soon started to convince myself that I could do more and more, and that's exactly what I did. I've never looked back and it's one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life.

How long have you been volunteering with PCRF?
Since 2003
What is your role with PCRF?
I am and have always been the treasurer of the support group.
Reasons for volunteering with PCRF
I was one of the founder members of the support group, which started in 2003. I joined initially thinking that I was helping out for a one night Dinner Dance event to be held at the Regency.

The Regency's owners were my dear friends Amber and Niam Mustafa. Amber, after whom the drop in centre has subsequently been named, was suffering from breast cancer at the time, and Professor Djamgoz was supporting her, so she and her husband wanted to do a fund raising event for his research. The event was a huge success and the committee which had been formed wanted to carry on raising money for PCRF.

We have gone from strength to strength, with our NCOW being the main event of the year. We managed to lease a property and turned it into the drop in centre that we are all very proud of.

Sadly we lost Amber just over two years ago, she was the reason I volunteered to work for PCRF, she and all others travelling the cancer journey. Whatever the outcome, are the reasons that I continue to do so.
